Christmas Book Donation 2024
The purchase of books for our local schools has been so successful over the past couple of years and has provided so much enjoyment for the children, young people and all involved that we have reached out again this year to offer the excitement and magical feeling of having a new book to read.
Fowey Academy
Fowey River Academy decided this year to choose books for the 10- to 14-year-old age group. Deborah the librarian was very involved and excited to be able to provide new books for these students and involved this age group to help choose the books. The titles are varied including some classics by authors such as Daphne Du Maurier and Emily Bronte, alongside some modern fiction such as The Vampire Diaries and novels based locally on the Isles of Scilly. The sport enthusiasts were also not forgotten as books on running, hiking, sailing and football were included.
Sarah was invited to go along to Fowey Academy, and it was lovely to see Deborah again and to experience how much she has achieved with the library this year and to hear how the students appreciate the opportunity of being able to have new and different books to read.

Tywardreath Pre-School Playgroup
The ability to be able to give each child at the Playgroup a new book at Christmas is a magical gift one that will hopefully inspire their journey to start and continue developing their reading skills.
This year the Playgroup has grown and has 30 children registered, the most ever for this time of year. The books received this year were either Christmassy or based on seasonal and wintry topics. Unfortunately, this year Father Christmas was too busy to visit the Playgroup, but the books were wrapped and given out as presents at their Christmas party.
Both sets of books were provided by Shrew Books in Fowey. This local, friendly, well stocked bookshop is run and owned by Kate who liaises with both the schools, sends a list of books for consideration and delivers them.
